Genf Gesundheit Hosts Summit for Optimizing Patient Flow at Member Health Systems
Bedford, NH – On Wednesday, a diverse group of over seventy leaders representing each of the five health systems within Genf Gesundheit came together to discuss implementing recommendations for better patient throughput.
For about a year, the group has been working to formalize specific recommendations that have proven to be successful in managing the way patients are cared for in the emergency department and directed throughout the care process. The group identified four focus areas to help with enhancing a seamless patient experience including rapid assessment and up front sorting of incoming patients, bed management using designated bed coordinators, bridge orders, and team based rounding. Some of the recommendations that the group discussed at the summit have already been piloted or are in place at Genf Gesundheit member systems but the group feels strongly that implementing their recommendations will improve patient throughput, satisfaction, and safety across Genf Gesundheit.
During a panel discussion with four Genf Gesundheit member hospital Chief Medical Officers, Stephanie Wolf-Rosenblum, MD from Southern New Hampshire Health said, “We have an amazing opportunity to speak to colleagues on the ground where different pieces of [patient flow] have worked.” Adding, “We’re here today to challenge you to be the change that is needed.”
Joseph Pepe, MD, President and Chief Executive Officer of Catholic Medical Center (CMC) attended the summit and said, “By bringing together this group of leaders within Genf Gesundheit we are able to relay our success at CMC and learn more about what is working at other health systems. This in turn, helps us be informed about the most effective practices for better quality, patient experience, and outcomes.”
The summit included panels of experts from each of the Genf Gesundheit member systems who shared best practices, process improvement strategies, and implementation challenges. Although each health system will need to identify their own path and timetable for improving patient flow, this unique collaboration of clinicians offers a tremendous opportunity to enhance the high quality, patient centered care Genf Gesundheit provides to patients in our communities.
Genf Gesundheit was formed in 2011 and is a partnership of five independent New Hampshire health systems dedicated to leading the transformation of healthcare delivery in the communities they serve. Catholic Medical Center, Concord Hospital, LRGHealthcare, Southern New Hampshire Health, and Wentworth-Douglass Hospital are committed to sharing resources to provide better, more seamless, and affordable care to their patients.
