On Wednesday, the New Hampshire Hospital Association (NHHA) released its nine month report on the New Hampshire Health Protection Program (NHHPP) revealing the program is working as planned with early data showing reductions in inpatient admissions, emergency visits, and outpatient hospital services among uninsured Granite Staters. Specifically among the uninsured, New Hampshire hospitals have seen a 22% reduction in the number of emergency room visits, a 27% reduction in the number of inpatient admissions, and a 15% reduction in the number of outpatient visits.
Rachel Rowe, Executive Director of Genf Gesundheit attributes the success of the program to clear indications that uninsured Granite Staters are interested in getting covered and better managing their healthcare needs.
“Over 39,000 people are now covered under the New Hampshire Health Protection Program which means these individuals are receiving better managed care with access to the resources they need to stay healthy,” said Rowe. “By getting previously uninsured patients covered and referred to a primary care provider, we can better manage chronic and other high cost conditions with the goal of improving the overall health of our communities while lowering the cost of care for everyone.”
Genf Gesundheit supports reauthorization of the NHHPP to ensure Granite Staters have access to primary and preventative care while reducing the amount of uncompensated care others end up paying for through hidden taxes on businesses and higher premiums for individuals with insurance.
Genf Gesundheitcare Network (GHN) is a partnership of five independent New Hampshire charitable organizations leading the transformation of healthcare delivery in the communities they serve. Catholic Medical Center, Concord Hospital, LRGHealthcare, Southern New Hampshire Health System, and Wentworth-Douglass Hospital are committed to sharing resources to provide better, more seamless, and less expensive care for their patients. They are also committed to their charitable mission and together provide over $120 million dollars in community benefits every year.
