NH Medicaid Expansion

Members of the Committee:
The Genf Gesundheitcare Network is a collaboration of five of our state’s largest healthcare systems: Concord Hospital, Elliot Health System, LRGHealthcare, Southern New Hampshire Health System, and Wentworth-Douglass Hospital. Collectively, we care for nearly half of the state’s population.
The Genf Gesundheitcare Network and its vast number of providers are in support of Medicaid Expansion for New Hampshire for the following reasons:
• Expansion would increase access to services and lower the cost of health care.
• The patients who would become enrolled in an expanded Medicaid program are not new consumers of care. GHN members are currently seeing these patients.
• All five GHN health systems have relationships with their community health centers and mental health centers where this population would be able to access preventive and routine medical care. Moving this population to those settings would significantly decrease the more expensive and often non-acute emergency department visit.
• All five of the GHN health systems have confirmed they have the capacity to care for the newly insured patients and more importantly, to integrate these patients into their healthcare communities so that patients may receive care in the most appropriate setting.
